September 2010 Brimfield: What We Brought Home

As promised, photos of some of the (awesome) junk yours truly picked up at the final Brimfield Antique Market of the year. Most of the stuff we grabbed is meant for various projects to be completed in the future...except for that duck. Isn't he great? Solid wood and "hand carved", supposedly. Yesterday P took off his scarf (aka price tag) and said "his head is broken and has been glued back on!". Maybe that is the way it is supposed to be? Oh well, I still love him. In case you can't tell I am super into animal "things" for the house. Poor P. If he has to endure one more mention of me finding "the perfect horse shoe" to hang in our house I think he might run away.
Anyway, the chair below is a mid-century Kroehler. Heard of it? Me either. It is obviously in pretty rough shape and needs some love...but for 20 bucks I couldn't leave it behind. Here's hoping it will be a good candidate for my new adventures in learning the fine art of upholstery. (More on that later, much later)

Like I said...most of the stuff will hopefully turn into projects that I hope we can share with you later! Except for the duck...oh, and the moose hooks. Yes, I said moose hooks. Amazing.

Brimfield 2010 Round 2

We decided that we did not want to miss out on the last Brimfield Antique Fair of the year, so we headed west on Saturday and I am so glad that we did. The fair covers acres and acres of land and features dealers from all over the country. The May show was my first experience here and this time around was just as great, if not better! I didn't forget my camera this time so that I could share some of the good, bad and just plain weird from the show.

Rousey, we thought this would be the perfect addition to your new apartment. :)

This booth had tons of bobbins, yarn, cast iron items and chocolate molds. We scored a handful of items that I have some great ideas for.

We loved this Turkish hand woven rug from the 1930s (the one on the left). It had great neutral colors and an awesome texture.

Just some of your typical shoppers. The fields stretch down this road on both sides for miles.

The vendors do a great job at keeping up with the trends. These carts have been all over the interior design world lately. I don't remember seeing any at the May show, but this time we saw dozens.

This woman's booth featured mostly scavenged items from restaurants...chairs, tables, glassware and this awesome sign.

This was by far the most random booth that I noticed. It included a variety of lawn art, a snow mobile, furniture, some kind of large reference books and more. That guy in the yellow shirt was seriously contemplating purchasing Marilyn.

And now for the really really really really weird. These two lovely ladies were found in two totally different locations...very far from each other. Is this a new trend I missed out on? Costume display on slutty mannequins? Yikes.

Brimfield

So I don't have any pictures from the actual event (forgot the camera in the car), but these are some of our finds from Brimfield Antique Market a couple of weeks ago. It was the craziest (in a good way) thing I have ever seen. Love. Love. Love. The market occurs three times every year and runs from a Tuesday through Sunday. There are several "fields" and each has its own schedule and days that it is open. So this was the first one of the year and we decided to go on Sunday just to check things out and then decide if we wanted to go back to the next one, which is in July.

We woke up bright and early (6:00) that morning. Yikes! I took a picture of us before we left home and...well....lets just say it is scary, so you don't get to see it. Anyway, we drove the hour out to western Massachusetts and parked in the first lot. We paid to park. Tip number 1: most of the lots don't charge on Sunday, so just drive to one that is free. We are silly. We spent the remainder of a beautiful day scoping the place out. It was huge! We didn't even make it to all of it. So I came home with an old typsetter's tray and a mirror. I am going to use the tray to keep all of my jewelry in my (not yet found/purchased) vanity and the mirror is for our downstairs bathroom. The plan has been to get a vintage mirror for that bathroom for a while now...but once we got it home I think P had some regrets. I still like it! And at the cheapo price we got it for...I double like it! :)

There were a few more pieces that I soooooo could have brought home, but I think I will hold out for the next trip. I think we are going to get a truck with a coworker and his wife and be true early bird flea market peeps next time! ooooooo, I'm already excited!
